WSCA Spring Meetings scheduled for May 14 at Stevens Point

WSCA Secretary, Vietta Kampen has distributed the Agenda for the Spring 2022 Members Meeting and for the Spring  WSCA Board  Meeting.  The meetings are scheduled to start at 9:30 AM on Saturday May 14.  The meeting will take place at the new Stevens Point Curling Club, and there is a Zoom link available as well. You may click on the links below to view the agenda for both meetings.  The agenda documents include the Zoom links as well.  All clubs are encouraged to send a representative, as there will be important discussion on  some topics of interest to all Wisconsin curlers.

Poynette: Roe Rink Mixed Champions

The Jeremy Roe rink from Madison bested a field of 5 teams on Sunday, February 6 to take the 2022 State Mixed Championship.  For Jeremy, this is his third mixed championship, having won also in 2002 and 2005. His teammates are Toni Paisley, La Crosse, Richard Maskel, Madison, and Mandy Hampton, Madison.   This is Richard's 5th mixed championship, and for Toni and Mandy, their first.  The team scored dramatic victories over Ben Randall from Blackhawk and also defending champion, Ryan Spielman, also from Blackhawk.  Randall took second place.

Wausau: Wisconsin Junior Championship Results

Kylee Barden, Pardeeville and Wes Wendling, Wausau skipped their teams to wins in the U18 Qualifiers at the Wausau Curling Center.  The girls championship was decided in an extra end in a tie-breaker game against Clare Viau, Stevens Point.  Barden used the hammer to score three in the final end, and stole the winning point in the extra end.  Curling with Barden were Lauren Hein at vice, Savanah Koch at second, and lead, Olivia Lee.

Superior: State Men's and Women's Championship Results

The second time was a charm for the Mark Olson team representing the Blackhawk Curling Club, competing in the State Championship in Superior.  Olson took second place two years ago in the 2020 championship losing the final to State Champion Willie Wilberg.  This year they qualified for the final again  this time against Brian Bergquist from the host club.  Curling with Olson were Jeremy Stubbe as vice, Benjamin Randall at second and  lead Tony Jacobson, all members of the Blackhawk Club in Janesville.

Irv Mossberger, WSCA State Championship Chair reports that the 2021-22 State (Club) Championships are underway at the Superior Curling Club.  13 Men's teams representing  the Superior,  Blackhawk, Madison, Poynette, Eau Claire, and Kettle Moraine Curling Clubs are vying for the Wisconsin State Championship "Bucky" patches.  Men's competition began Thursday afternoon and continues through Sunday, Dec. 12.
