State Mixed Championship in Poynette, Feb. 3-5

Two Madison based teams took to the Poynette ice on Friday night in the first game of the 2017 Wisconsin State Mixed Championship.  Tim Ebert skips his team of Susan Dukes, Paul Ryan, and Stephanie Martin while Steve Day is the skip for Sydney Schmus, Dan Schally and Shalon Holbeck.  The ladies on Steve's team are currently half of the National Women's Club Champion team.  Day's team turned in 6 points in the third end to roll away to a quick win in the first game.  The competition is slated for best 3 out of 5 with games sceheduled for 10:00AM and 3:00PM on Saturday and 9:00AM and 2:00PM o

WSCA Senior Men's Bonspiel Results

Madison Curling Club hosted  a full slate of 40 Senior Men's curling teams on Jan. 20-22, for the WSCA Senior Men's Bonspiel.

Successfully defending his championship from 2016 was Ken Neidhart, Madison, with his teammates of Paul Ryan, Jim Neidhart and Rob Wixson. 1st event runner up was the youngest team in the field, Neil Feil from Kettle Moraine, with Bob Cuomo, Craig Schambow and Steve Keshen.

Winning the Masters Division was the Ron Parker Team from Rice Lake. Curling with Ron were Bill Wiberg, Wes Mohns and Bob Stanonik

McDonald and Steinhaus Win Badger Junior Titles; McDonald and Elwing Win U18

The Wisconsin Junior Championships were completed at the Portage Curling Club, Dec. 16-18, 2016.  For the first time ever, the Junior Championships consisted of two competitions, the Wisconsin (Badger) Championships and the new U18 competitions.  Andrea McDonald from Madison led her team to an undefeated record of 5-0 to win both the U18 competition and the Wisconsin Junior Women's Badger Championship.  Curling with Andrea were  Elizabeth Vorpahl - Portage, Rachel Kawleski and Suzanna Viau, from Stevens Point.

Sweeping Equipment - Compliant Brush Heads for Playdown Events

Based on the Sweeping Summit, held last summer in Canada,  the World Curling Federation has stipulated a list of compliant brush heads for sweeping equipment used by all teams participating in Playdown and Championship events.  Generally, the compliant brush heads are all a standard color - golden  (yellow-orange).  For  a complete list of compliant brush heads along with photos, please click on the link.

Wisconsin Junior/U-18 Championships in Portage

Portage Curling Club is hosting the Wisconsin Junior/U18 Championships,  Dec. 16-18.  Along with the traditional Junior Men's and Women's Championships, for the first time ever, U18 championships will also be decided.  As it's name suggest, U18 competitions are open only to junior curlers who were under age 18, on June 30 of this year.   Five boys teams have signed up.  They are:

1. Rob Shlimovitz, Portage  - defending champions

    Rob Shlimovitz, Cody Falk, Ben Miller, Alex Vorpahl

2. Nick Steinhaus, Kettle Moraine
